Remembering our Friends Memorial: the Gate

Remembering our Friends Memorial: the Gate

Today, Tuesday 23rd February, is a rather unusual Meta Makeover as we visit the Remembering Our Friends Memorial in the Sunset Arts II sim. This very special place was created by Mike Burleigh, and designed and developed by Marc Montague of the BDMM Design Group. It consists of three non-denominational chapels where people can remember people close to them who have died in real life, and also those that they have loved and lost in Second Life.

Visiting the memorial is avery moving experience – as the Meta makeover team discoovered when we paid our preliminary visits, and you will have a chance today to join us as we talk with Marc Montague, and some of the people who have plaques to commemmorate loved ones in the Memorial.

There’s a special area for concerts and events that’s a new part of the memorial, and our studio audience will be able to join us there.

The show starts at 2pm SLT, but you should be there by 1.30pm to make sure of getting a seat.

We’ll see you there!

The Last Night Party in Caer Blanco

The Last Night Party in Caer Blanco

Our Halloween stay on Caer Blanco is finished, and we said a sad but rousing farewell last night – with music from Diamanda Gustafson – and then an impromptu set from Gwen Carillon, which allowed us all to dance for another hour!

And we had fireworks too just because we wanted to.

It was a marvellous end to what has been a fantastic project – with an amazing range of people being involved – the designers who landscaped and furnished the sim and the castle, the musicians and djs who played for our entertainment, the storytellers and Maar Auer, who has made a wonderful machinima about the island, the team who organised the events and above all, Reacher Rau and his team who made the whole thing possible and Rascal Blanco, whose original concept it was.

Phelisanong Clinic Exhibition in Northpoint

Phelisanong Clinic Exhibition in Northpoint

Very soon we shall be publishing here the details of the money that was raised for the Phelisanong Clinic in Lesotho.

But you will be able to find out more about the clinic – and to donate to the project to extend the clinic – by visiting the Meta Makeover exhibition hall on Northpoint, as we have decided to continue to feature the clinic display (and donation point) to the end of the year.

And if you want to learn more about the country of Lesotho and the problems it is facing, where more than one in five of the population are HIV positive, you can read about it here in a special feature – Lesotho Aid Diary – on the BBC.

Over the next six months, the BBC will follow the lives of seven people from the community of St Rodrigue, 40km south of the capital, Maseru, as they struggle to live with the HIV crisis. And over the next six months too, Prim Perfect and Meta Makeover will be endeavouring to raise money to extend Phelisanong Clinic so that it can continue to serve the community.

Today is a sad occasion as it marks the last of our events at the fabulous sim of Caer Blanco.

Farewell, Farewell Steampunk Ball
Sunday, November 9th, 2008 at 2-4pm SLT
in the Castle Grounds

After three weeks of very special live events in a fabulous sim, created for us by some of Second Life’s very top designers, our wonderful stay is coming to an end.

Tonight’s Steampunk Ball will be our last event – and we want to go out in style – so come and join us and DJ Diamanda Gustafson for one last fantastic party!

And our thanks go to all those people who have worked so hard over the last month to make this event such a very special one – the designers, the entertainers, the organisers who have worked so hard behind the scenes – and especially to kat Vargas, who organised our wonderful live concerts with her artists, and above all to Reacher Rau and his team, for supplying and landscaping the island for us.

Samhain Ceremony and Celebration. 7pm SLT in Caer Blanco
Join Eva Bellambi as she hosts a Samhain Celebration in Caer Blanco on Astrologic Samhain, November 6, 2008.

Oidhche Shamhna as Samhain is known in Scots Gælic is one of the principal festivals of the Celtic calendar.  It represents the final harvest and the beginning of winter.

samhain-invitation-caer-blancoTraditionally, Samhain was time to take stock of the herds and grain supplies, and decide which animals would need to be slaughtered in order for the people and livestock to survive the winter. This custom is still observed by many who farm and raise livestock.  Bonfires played a large part in the festivities celebrated down through the last several centuries, and up through the present day in some rural areas of the Celtic nations and the diaspora.

We will celebrate a brief ceremony together in the old traditions, and then dance around the fire to celtic musical selections provided by Gabrielle Riel.

Rondeval for Phelisanong Clinic

Rondeval for Phelisanong Clinic

The latest episode of Meta Makeover is now available on the Meta Makeover website at SLCN – and can also be downloaded free of charge from iTunes.

It’s another chance to see our fantastic Halloween island of Caer Blanco – and we explore the uppper floors of the castle with Rascal Blanco, the project manager, and Riversong Garden of Better World Island who explains something about the charity that will be receiving the money we raise here.

And you can watch as we take a stroll around the upper floors of the castle, to see the work of Keith Extraordinaire of KX Designs Studio, who has created an amazingly lush bedroom, and Jeannie Moonflower of Bygone Days, whose dark nursery is very scary, especially with the addition of Maxwell Graf of Rustica’s haunted crib.  And there’s the amazing roof reading room with its dark and sinsuter treats – created by the highly dangerous combination of Maxwell Graf and Lyyric Fei of Rustica, and Angelica Zuma and Pierre Roelofs of Arcana Nuevo and  ArkAngel Designs.

And we talk to Fatima Ur of Antiques Artistry, who created the cemetry and a wonderful spooky orridor to accompany the chilling photographs from Autopilotpaptty Poppy of Dark Dragon Gallery, and to Poppet McGimsie of The Old Curiousity Shop who placed a wonderful dancing with ghost vignette and an opportunity to talk to spirits in the Tower!

As you can see, it’s a packed show – so don’t miss it!
