Saffia in Jean by Ivalde

Saffia in Jean by Ivalde

Meta Makeover is working on a very exciting show, because we are making over a cafe for the sims dedicated to the Warner Brothers show, Gossip Girl.

So Saffia needed outfits that are sharp and elegant enough for the fashionable Upper East Side!

For her visit to the cafe, Saffia chose to wear Jean (one of the range of dresses inspired by Marilyn Monroe) by Ivalde Ivalde in dark green – but she is wearing it without the shirt or tie.

“I love the smartness of this outfit,” says Saffia.  “Perfect for a business meeting.  But I found that the shirt and tie were a little too heavy for relaxing in the cafe – I wanted a look that was just as sharp but slightly less business-like.  Remove the collar and tie – and there you are!”

For filming in the studio, Saffia went with an old favourite, Verun in black.

“It’s a lovely dress,” says Saffia, “simple, smart and elegant, and the shawl collar is really flattering too.  As soon as we started planning the show, I knew Verun was going to make an appearance.”

But today it’s teamed with something new – a really beautiful necklace.

“This is a creation of Gwen Carillon, the designer on the show,” says Saffia.  “As well as furniture, Gwen makes the most wonderful jewellery – she is an expert at torturing prims to make the most wonderful necklaces – and ear-rings, bracelets and other pieces too!  The necklace I’m wearing is part of a set called Dusk to Dawn, and it’s available from Gwen’s store, Elements in Design.

And, of course, Saffia makes an appearance in a third Ivalde outfit in the show – (you’ll find a clue here!) but you’ll have to look quickly!

Saffia in Vivviann

Saffia in Vivviann by Ivalde

This Saturday (August 23rd) will see the broadcast of our Makeover of Catherine Linden’s mainland home, but actually we are hard at work on the episode after that – which will be a very exciting one.

We won’t tell you what it is until our Saturday show, of course … but we can give you a sneak preview.

Our designer had the idea of decorating the walls with some ‘celebrity’ photos from a bygone era, and asked Saffia to pose as a flapper.  This is one of the photos, showing Saffia wearing Ivalde’s charming flapper dress Vivviann.  Look out for a similar picture in the show – which will be shown at the end of the month (August 30th)!

Catherine Lindens madeover home

Catherine Linden's madeover home

Meta Makeover is filming today – Thursday 14th August at 2pm SLT at the SLCN studios in Northpoint – and everyone is welcome.

However, don’t look for the show on your SLCN TV tonight – this show will be broadcast in Saturday at 9.30 am SLT on Saturday 16th August, and then again at 7pm on Monday SLT 18th August.

This week we’re making over a small but rather special home – Catherine Linden’s mainland house where she likes to relax – and to entertain real life journalists, to give them a taste of what Second Life is all about.

It’s a lovely little house – designed by Barnesworth Anubis.  But Catherine’s very busy and hasn’t had time to furnish it fully.  So we agreed to give her a Meta Makeover – and for our designer, we asked Kittie Munro, who loves Eastern and Oriental Designs (as you can see in her store, Kitstar Designs).

Join us in the studio today to find out what she did!

The show starts at 2pm SLT, but you should be there by 1.45pm to make sure of getting a seat.

We’ll see you there!

Saffia wearing Katherine, by Ivalde

Saffia in Rosemarie, by Ivalde

Saffia wearing Rosemarie, by Ivalde

In today’s show, Saffia is wearing Katherine by Ivalde in red, for her visit to Catherine’s home, and the lovely new summer dress Rosemarie, in seagreen.

“There’s something about the fifties style of Katherine that reminds me of the films featuring Japan I watched when I was young,” says Saffia.  I was always fascinated by the sense of modernity against the bakground of an ancient culture.

“Katherine is one of Ivalde’s earliest dresses, so I was delighted to also be wearing one of her newest on the programme too!  That’s Rosemarie, and it’s lovely and fresh for summer – with a wicked little bow too!”

“Dorothea, though, is a lovely and stylish Victorian gown. It’s actually been in my wardrobe for a while; I love the formality of it, and the way the coat sweeps back to reveal the skirt beneath.

“As for the studio outfit, once I saw the new Lill dress, I thought it would be perfect. Crisp and smart, with a stylish top (I love the prim flare at the waist) and a crisp white skirt, perfect for being business-like in the studio and cool at the same time!”

Detail of the living room at Cheswick

Detail of the living room at Cheswick

Our Meta Makeover from Cheswick Village is available on the web, and from the iTunes store.

In this show we made over a lovely and unique Victorian house in the Cheswick Village estate, owned by Bracken Back and Samaria Arai.

Bracken and Samaria have run Cheswick Village for some time, offering spacious and elegant Tudor rentals located in a lush country setting. Their houses have frequently been custom made, but now they are looking to create a new area – with Victorian custom-made homes. These are unusual because, while many builders choose to build on level sky platforms, and then lower the homes onto flat land, Bracken has built in situ, allowing the contours of the land to shape his houses, with interesting results.

We asked Soleil Snook of Snook’s Garden Centre to landscape the house, and Jeannie Moonflower of Bygone Days to furnish the inside. Watch how they worked with this lovely and unusual house – and how Jeannie created wonderful stories around the house, and a thriving business to be located in the basement!
